Covering 1150 square
miles, the county of Staffordshire lies landlocked in the midlands.
To the north of the region, steep hills and moorland dominate the
landscape, while the south is much more level. Known the world over
for its pottery (Wedgewood and Royal Doulton are both produced here),
most of the UK is also familiar with the Alton Towers theme park
– haunted by a spectral old man walking his dog.
