Cowboy

Location: Tunstall - Ancient Briton Public House (no longer operational)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 2006
Further Comments: A video recorded on a mobile phone was said to contain the image of a ghostly cowboy, though the 'ghost' resembles light flare. A previous landlord claimed his child spoke to the phantom cowboy, who would move the child's socks.


 
 


Person in Cloak

Location: Tutbury - Duke Street
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: March 1993
Further Comments: A photograph that was printed in Fortean Times issue 157 appears to show a cloaked figure moving down the street.


 
 


Gregorian Chant

Location: Tutbury - Former priory (only the church remains)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: February 2012, 22:00h (singing), 1970s (monk)
Further Comments: While at this site, two witnesses heard chanting coming from the church. The singing faded after a couple of minutes. A ghostly monk was seen by members of the church choir and bell ringers in the 1970s, standing on the crossing above the main doors.


 
 


Ghost Hunt

Location: Tutbury - Tutbury Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: This building broke the record for having the world's largest ghost hunt, with 700 people looking for the phantom monk, a grey lady, a drummer boy and Mary Queen of Scots, amongst other shades...


 
 


Little Boy with Red Piggy Eyes

Location: Upper Mayfield - Lowes Cottage
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1997 / 98
Further Comments: This cottage hit the news when the owners refused to finish paying for the property, due to the ill effects they suffered caused by the supernatural entity that took the form of a small boy. They were sued by the former owners over non-payment of the 44,000.


 
 


Man in Black Cape

Location: Uttoxeter - Alton Towers
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1920s or 1930s
Further Comments: More frequently seen in the nineteenth century, this ghostly gentleman, complete with cape and cane, could be seen walking his dog around the estate. It was thought that he had suffered a heart attack, and broken his neck while falling down a set of steps. There is also a local story that a death of an heir of the Shrewsbury family is always preceded by the appearance of a ghostly old gypsy on the estate.


 
 


Person in Black

Location: Uttoxeter - Road to Chartley
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2004, 05:30h
Further Comments: A figure dressed in black walked by two men out early one morning. The men turned to have another look, but the figure had vanished.


 
 


Moved

Location: Walsall - St Matthew's Church
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Church still present
Further Comments: The fairies took a dislike to where the church was going to be built, so moved the foundation stones to the top of the hill where the church was finally built.


 
 


Baby's Arm

Location: Walsall - White Hart Inn, Caldmore Green
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: A mummified arm of a young child (a hand of glory) was once found in the attic of the inn and it is believed the spirit of the infant still haunts the room, causing strange banging and leaving handprints in dust.


 
 


Dancing Fairies

Location: Waterhouses - Cauldron Low
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The hill here is reportedly home to the little people, who spend the night time hours dancing on the summit.


 
 


Knocking

Location: Waterhouses - Ye Olde Crown Inn
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2008 - 2011 (and ongoing)
Further Comments: A number of poltergeist activities have been reported by a paranormal team based in the Inn, including knocking which answers questions, voices caught on recording devices, fleeting shadows, and small objects which move across surfaces. A young girl has also been observed dancing by the fireplace and a toothless old man sits in a corner.


 
 


Gabriel Hounds

Location: Wednesbury - General area
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Gabriel Hounds, demonic dogs that would fly through the air, would often be heard in this region. Other witnesses thought they were geese...


 
 


Clavichordist

Location: Whitmore - Whitmore Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: This building is haunted by the sounds of a Clavichord (similar to a Harpsichord) and by a phantom stable groom.


 
 


Man Monkey

Location: Woodseaves - Bridge along Birmingham / Liverpool Canal
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Jan 1879
Further Comments: This strange black creature with glowing white eyes leapt onto the back of a horse pulling a cart - when its owner tried to hit the mysterious creature, his whip passed straight through its body.
