Further Comments: The poltergeist at work in this pub plays around with beer casks, taps and pinches staff, and moves pool balls.

Cellar Dweller

Location: Bath - Devonshire Arms, Wellsway

Further Comments: The basement of this public house is reportedly haunted by a girl killed on the nearby railway lines. One member of staff reported feeling invisible hands tugging at their clothing.

Dueller

Location: Bath - Duelling ground, Victoria Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: This former duelling site is said to be haunted by a sword handling Dueller. The whispers of the deceased fighters and strange mist are said to emerge from a nearby holly bush.

Further Comments: Staff and visitors to the building have heard footsteps coming from an empty room here.


Francis Hotel, Bath.

Housekeeper

Further Comments: As the guide on the Bath tour bus will tell you, this hotel is haunted by a former housekeeper who, in a state of depression, hanged herself. Two guests at the hotel in 2013 spent a restless night after scratching and tapping from inside their room kept them awake, and a hot water bottle was swept off the table.


Gay Street, Bath.

Man

Further Comments: A man with his long hair tied back with a ribbon is said to haunt this street. He can only be seen by other men. Two houses along the road are said to be haunted, one by disembodied voices, though details of the other haunting are not forthcoming.

Further Comments: The city of Bath is said to have been constructed around waters that cured Prince Bladud of leprosy and his pigs of skin complaints.

Raining Jellyfish

Location: Bath - General area

Further Comments: Some parts of the town were covered in thousands of jellyfish that apparently fell from the sky.


Victoria Park, Bath.

White Haired Man

Location: Bath - Gravel Walk, Victoria Park

Date / Time: Sightings said to have been around 20:45h, several in 1976
Further Comments: This white haired man has appeared several times, only to suddenly vanish.

Misty Lady

Location: Bath - Grosvenor Hotel

Further Comments: The appearance of this female phantom is accompanied by a sharp drop in temperature. Footfalls are also reported.

Further Comments: A local myth states that the long drop on the other side of this wall is where plague-infected bodies were thrown - the upset spirits are still heard complaining about their treatment.

Further Comments: The sound (never the sight) of horses and drawn carriages is said to linger here.

Banging

Location: Bath - Little Theatre Cinema

Further Comments: Paranormal investigators were called to this theatre after strange bangs and other unexplained sounds were heard around the site.


Beau Nash House, Bath.

Juliana

Location: Bath - Popjoy's Restaurant (Beau Nash House)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century?
Further Comments: Juliana Popjoy, the mistress of eighteenth century fashionista and dandy Beau Nash, is reported to haunt this restaurant, as is another ghostly woman wearing clothing from the 1960s. They say the latter figure looks perfectly solid until she suddenly vanishes without trace.

Curious Old Man

Location: Bath - Private residence, Oldfield Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late 1978
Further Comments: While living in a bedsit with a shared kitchen, one witness spotted an older man standing on the landing of the staircase. The witness jumped and the old man vanished, although the witness was left with a very vivid impression of the ghostly figure - grey hair, blue eyes, baggy trousers, olive green waistcoat, and shirt sleeves held up by expanding metal bands. The witness said the figure's head was slightly cocked to one side, as if curious.

Julia

Further Comments: Dressed in her wedding dress, Julia walks around this area. It is possible she searches for the man who jilted her at the altar.

Eloping Elizabeth

Location: Bath - Royal Crescent

Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The phantom coach and horses reputed to haunt this area contain Elizabeth Linley and Richard Brinsley Sheridan as they elope time after time.


The Salamander pub, Bath.

Flying Glasses

Location: Bath - Salamander public house, John Street
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: As per polt normal, this spirit is said to throw glasses around, create disembodied footfalls, and generate cold spots.

Old Fashioned Lady

Location: Bath - Second floor flat at Grosvenor Place
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: Seen by a husband and wife couple, this monochromic figure silently drifted through their living room, terrifying the pet cat. More recently, she has been observed on the staircase.

Playing Ball

Date / Time: When the clock strikes thirteen
Further Comments: Two lions stand on the gate posts here, each cat with a paw on a ball. Locals say when the clock strikes thirteen, the lions kick the balls at each other.

George

Location: Bath - The Raven public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: George is said to take a female form and haunt the cellar, close to a well which was once thought to be bottomless.


Theatre Royal, Bath.

Grey Lady

Location: Bath - Theatre Royal & Garrick's Head Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 25 December (butterfly) (reoccurring), Grey Lady last seen 1975
Further Comments: An actress killed herself in the hotel in the 1880s after discovering her husband had murdered her secret lover. The actress's last performance at the theatre occurred a few hours before her death, a role which required her to wear a grey feather dress - the same clothing her ghost still wears as it patrols the theatre and hotel. Her phantom may have last been seen in 1975. A dainty butterfly is also reported to haunt the theatre, manifesting briefly once a year on Christmas Day.

Old Servant

Location: Bath - York Villa

Further Comments: This faithful servant now refuses to leave the house, suffering guilt for allowing two children to starve to death. One of the children is said to still be around, as is his mother who manifests as a Grey Lady.

Battle of Mount Badon

Location: Bathampton - Bathampton Down
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The down has been suggested as the site where Arthur engaged and defeated the Saxons.

Jean Baptiste du Barre

Location: Bathampton - The George Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century, said to be more frequent in December
Further Comments: A Frenchman killed in a duel, du Barre reportedly took his last breaths in the inn. A spirit resembling the duellist was seen standing by the bar at the end of the twentieth century; the witness said the entity was friendly and unthreatening.
