Further Comments: The last time this area of water was cleaned, a mermaid popped up out of the water and threatened to destroy Newport and Meretown if the pool was emptied.

Wild Edric

Further Comments: A county hero, Wild Edric is said to emerge from the lead mines where he lives and charge off towards England's enemies when required. Once flesh and blood, it is thought his fairy wife may have had a hand in making him and his troops immortal.

Raining Frogs

Further Comments: During a heavy rainfall, dozens of frogs fell from the sky. They had vanished within two hours after the rains had stopped.

Spring
Location: Oswestry - King Oswald's Well

Further Comments: This spring was created when the severed arm of King Oswald of Northumberland hit the ground, dropped by an eagle who had taken it from a battlefield. The nearby hillfort was once thought to have belonged to Guinevere's father, though this is now discounted.

Black Cat
Location: Poynton Green - Field in the village

Date / Time: 22 October, every ten years (next in 2021) (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Two Czech pilots died here on 22 October 1941, crashing in the field as they ran out of fuel. A local farmer rushed to the field in an attempt to save them, but was beaten back by the flames. He did, however, see a black cat emerge from the burning wreckage. The creature made its home with a local old woman, and when she died, the cat vanished, but appears once every ten years at the crash site.

Further Comments: The group Ghost Shropshire investigated this site and reported recording the voices of children and witnessing apparitions and strange shadows.

Fast Moving Procession

Further Comments: A large group of people following a horse drawn hearse have been seen on a number of occasions, moving much more swiftly than one should expect.

Misty Horseman

Further Comments: Sometimes, around midnight, a thick mist rolls into the churchyard. Soon after, a headless horseman rides in, vanishing into the mist, heading towards an old castle keep.

Further Comments: A dragon was said to protect hidden gold in this barrow.

Angry Old Nick

Further Comments: This rocky outcrop is named after Old Nick after he accidentally dropped stones here instead of Hell's Gutter. A local legend says the Devil hates the area so much that he continues to bring heavy boulders to the area, hoping the county will sink beneath the sea.

Lost Bell

Further Comments: A village once stood here, but as the villagers mocked God, He sent forth a storm that flooded the area. The church bell can now be heard pealing once a year. So the story goes.

Monk

Further Comments: Seen in the pub by the wife of the landlord, this phantom monk was said to have bright colours speckled over his habit. A Dutch officer is also rumoured to haunt the building.

Sleeping Dragon
Location: Shrewsbury - Earl's Hill and Pontesford Hill

Further Comments: Some locals say that the two hills are actually a sleeping dragon. Another legend connected with the area says that either the king of Mercia or the king of Wessex lost a gold arrow here in the seventh century, and it can only be found by a seventh daughter of a seventh son.

Black Panther

Further Comments: Police land and air units were called out to investigate the reports of a long black cat seen sitting in the field, though a search failed to find the creature.

Further Comments: Appearing during the dead of night, this female phantom walks through the bar area before vanishing.

Further Comments: While the haunting entities have yet to be seen, the combined sounds of crying, moaning and footsteps are said to be enough to unnerve the bravest of souls.

Further Comments: This local Councillor was killed when part of the roof collapsed and landed on him. He has been seen waiting around, either sitting or standing, in the area.

Bedded Woman

Further Comments: The ghost of an unknown woman has been seen lying on the bed displayed in this museum, wearing old period dress. Another ghost, that of a man wearing similar period clothing has also been reported.

Banging

Further Comments: The West Midlands Ghost Club carried out a investigation that recorded the sound of female vocals in June. Returning in September, they recorded a clanging noise which ended in a loud bang.

Grey Lady

Further Comments: A lady in grey reputedly haunts the Adam Ballroom, and is seen standing on the balcony. The Tudor bar is said to be the home of an old soldier in uniform.

Giant's Gold
Location: Stokesay - Stokesay Castle

Further Comments: Two giants stored their gold in a large locked chest under the castle. One giant managed to drop the key in the castle moat, where it is said to remain to this day. The chest has to be approached with the key in hand, to do so otherwise invites an attack from a large raven.

Black Puma

Further Comments: Clear CCTV footage showed a large (around two meters in length) black cat stalking the neighbourhood. The RSPCA stated the creature was indeed a puma.

Screams

Date / Time: Cries unknown, monk seen in May 2004
Further Comments: The tortured cries of persons unknown can often be heard coming from under this building, sometimes drowned out by the singing of hymns. The photographer Lawson Clout spotted a ghostly monk here in 2004, though the figure vanished before he had a chance to take any images. Yellow Eyed Cat

Further Comments: After hearing rustling in nearby bushes, a walker approached closer only to hear loud cat-like screeching. As they backed away, a large black cat with yellow eyes was spotted.

Further Comments: Plates would throw themselves onto the floor, loaves of bread 'attacked' people, and, most disturbingly, the baby's cradle caught fire, with the infant in it.
