Further Comments: Dressed in dark clothing, this feminine shade protects a hoard of buried treasure. The silk of the ghost's dress can normally be heard in the wind. One field in the area is said to be impossible to cultivate.

Man in the Golden Chair

Further Comments: A secret tunnel near here was once believed to lead to a room full of gold and jewels, looked after by an old man who waited in a golden chair to hand over the wealth to whoever found it first. A piper and his dog were once sent in to investigate the tunnel - a short time later, the dog came out terrified and the man was never seen again.

Green Lady

Further Comments: This ghostly tall woman, wearing a green dress, is said to search the graveyard for the remains of her Royalist husband. The second myth from this church concerns a great treasure that is said to have been buried here along with human remains from a Civil War battle. Unfortunately the hoard is protected by a headless phantom that intervenes if anyone comes too close to discovering it.

Treasure Protector

Further Comments: Little is known about this ghost, other than he is said to protect a hoard of treasure, and twelve clergymen failed to exorcise him. Maybe the clergymen were more successful than they believed - the legend dates back to at least 1893, but in April 2008 a hoard of golden coins were discovered in farm land in the village.

Further Comments: A woman bathed in dazzling white was seen close to these ruins. A myth says that a golden carriage is buried somewhere nearby.

Guardian Monster

Further Comments: Protecting a hoard of treasure, this beast has teamed up with a raven which calls out if anyone comes too close to the gold. The beast will then wait until a rope is lowered into the pit and then sever it when the treasure hunter is climbing down. The body would always be found outside the hole in the morning.

Further Comments: After he died, the noble from Poland left a great deal of money to friends and relatives, but the hidden funds could not be found. Though his shade was seen shortly after death, no one has had to courage to face the ghost and ask where his treasure is concealed.

Further Comments: Reportedly protecting buried treasure, the monk appears once a year to ensure that the hiding place hasn't been discovered.

Dead Husband
Location: Glanworth (County Cork) - Labbacallee (aka The Hag's Bed), wedge tomb

Further Comments: Sheela, a giant's wife, killed her husband after throwing their bed at him - he had argued with her and struck her shoulder with an axe. His body still lays under the tomb, and Sheela can be heard in times of national crisis calling out her husband's name. Another story says four treasure hunters arrived at the stone and started to dig beneath it. Before long, a cat appeared with a burning tail. The light blinded the men and they staggered off, one falling into the River Funshion and drowning.
