Drake

Location: Tavistock (Devon) - Road between town and Plymouth
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Pulled by black headless horses, Sir Frances Drake drives a dark hearse down these roads whenever his drum beats (see Yelverton (Devon) entry).


 
 


Headless Group

Location: Tenby (Dyfed) - Between Tenby and Sampson Cross
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Every night (reoccurring)
Further Comments: A headless team of horses driven by a headless coachman carries a headless lady in a coach along this road every night. As they reach the crossroads known as Sampson Cross, some ten miles from their starting point, they all disappear in a large explosion. Some people believe the entities have been laid, and now rest in a nearby lake.


 
 


Heinous Horse

Location: Termonfeckin (County Louth) - Road passing Rath House
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: 1966
Further Comments: Two young adults driving along this road witnessed an otherworldly horse with the face of a man, the creature's eyes bulging from their sockets. The manifestation stood in the road, blocking their path for two minutes before vanishing.


 
 


Headless Horseman

Location: Thaxted (Essex) - Gibbets Cross, crossroads
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: A local farmer told his friends that he had seen a headless horseman sitting upon a white steed pass by this crossroads.


 
 


Funeral Possession

Location: The Wansdyke (Wiltshire) - Various places along the post Roman dyke
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A wooden wagon bearing a coffin, pulled by jet black horses, has been spotted along this old dyke. The spectacle vanishes if witnesses become too close.


 
 


Little George

Location: Thetford (Norfolk) - St George's Nunnery - Nun's bridges
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Sixteenth century?
Further Comments: The seven year old George fell from a wooden horse in May 1559, cracking his skull on the wall of the bridge and dying from his injury. The young ghost haunted the area for a number of years (riding around on a headless wooded horse) before being exorcised.


 
 


Mustard Coloured Coach

Location: Theydon Bois (Essex) - Hill Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 31 May, Midnight (Reoccurring)
Further Comments: On the stroke of midnight, a mustard coloured coach is believed to drive down the driveway of the ruined building. Its owner is thought to be Duke de Morrow, who lived in the building at the beginning of the twentieth century.


 
 


Radiant Boy

Location: Thirsk (Yorkshire) - Road to the town, exact location unknown
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Lighting up the night with his brilliance, this lad rode past the witness on horseback, disappearing across a field.


 
 


Horse & Cart on Driveway

Location: Thornham (Suffolk) - Lord Henniker's Gravel Driveway
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: The present Lord's father tells stories of hearing horses and wheels on the gravel driveway; on investigation, there was nothing ever seen.


 
 


Horse

Location: Tillington (Sussex) - Lanes in the area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century?
Further Comments: One particular, unnamed, lane in the village is the haunt of a headless horse. The village must attract decapitated entities, as a headless pig is also said to haunt the general area.


 
 


Merlin

Location: Tintagel (Cornwall) - Tintagel Castle
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A place featuring in Arthurian legend (Arthur is said to have been born here), the cave under the castle is said to be the one time home of Merlin. His spirit now shows a reluctance to leave the place. A ghostly horseman was reported by one witness, who promptly named the spirit as King Arthur.


 
 


White Lady

Location: Totnes (Devon) - Dartington Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This pale figure is said to be one of several ghosts reported here over the years, normally seen in the garden. An old nurse and a woman who was staved to death in a bedroom also continue to reside here, while a headless horseman has been reported just outside the grounds of the building.


 
 


Coach

Location: Trawsfynydd (Gwynedd) - Road through the village
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 30 December 1979
Further Comments: A phantom coach pulled by ghostly horses was spotted as it passed through the village.


 
 


Galloping Horsemen

Location: Tremadog (Gwynedd) - Bypass close to the Tremadog roundabout
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: 20 July 2012, around 17:00h
Further Comments: A group of four or six horsemen wearing brown leather were seen charging across this bypass.


 
 


Bolting Horses

Location: Trent (Dorset) - Trent Barrow, pool
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Weather dependent: Stormy weather
Further Comments: The pool was once the scene of a tragedy when a horse drawn carriage crashed into it, drowning all on board. This mishap can still occasionally be heard.


 
 


Red Coach

Location: Truro (Cornwall) - Road between Truro and Mevagissey
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: This large red coach, drawn by four horses, charged at a motorist driving the opposite way down the narrow road - the apparition vanished just before impact.


 
 


Headless Rider

Location: Tunstead (Derbyshire) - Manifold Valley
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nights of the full moon (reoccurring)
Further Comments: A beautiful white horse carrying a headless rider gallops across the valley when the night sky is right. The phantom is either a peddler or a soldier, depending on the legend.


 
 


Young Male Rider

Location: Tynron (Dumfries and Galloway) - Tynron castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The area around the castle is haunted by a decapitated horseman. The ghost is thought to be a man who tried to marry a girl residing at the castle, but her brothers chased him away. During the pursuit, the young man fell from his horse and lost his head.


 
 


White Horse

Location: Uffington (Oxfordshire) - Hills of town
Type: Legend
Date / Time: 1920s, reoccurring every 100 years
Further Comments: The famous white horse seen on the hill from the village is reported to leave once a year (or every one hundred years, depending on the story teller) to have its feet shod at the nearby Wayland's Smithy. Another local legend states that the horse isn't really a horse, but the dragon slain by St George on that very hill.

Location: Upavon (Wiltshire) - Bridge
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Heard but not seen, a phantom coach occasionally crosses the bridge.


 
 


Stage Coach

Location: Uplyme (Devon) - Whitty Hill area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970s
Further Comments: This black and red coach is still drawn along the roads, pulled by four phantom horses.


 
 


Coach

Location: W2 (Greater London) - Bayswater Road, area near Hyde Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A nineteenth century coach and horses are said to still run along this stretch of road.


 
 


Coach and Horses

Location: Wadebridge (Cornwall) - Trewornan Bridge
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Once per year, on a night of a full moon
Further Comments: Moving at breakneck speed, a phantom team of horses pulling a coach race across the bridge before vanishing on the other side.


 
 


Fallen Horses

Location: Wakefield (Yorkshire) - Denby Dale Road bridge, and river below
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s?
Further Comments: Walking her dog across the bridge, Amanda West was frozen with fear when the sound of horses passed her - with no horses to be seen. Without warning, she then heard a loud splash. Looking into the river below, the water was calm, but the sound of panicking horses could now be heard coming from below. She later found out that the original bridge had collapsed in 1836 and a team of horses pulling a cart had drowned.


 
 


Equine Entities

Location: Walberswick (Suffolk) - Walberswick Common
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Daytime
Further Comments: Said to be heard only during the day, phantom horses gallop across the common. In addition, reports of a phantom man have been frequent since the 1940s, appearing both on the common and in the church ruins.
