Radley

Location: Halam (Nottinghamshire) - Valley southeast of village
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 24 December (reoccurring)
Further Comments: The buried village of Radley is hidden somewhere in this area, and long vanished church bells can be heard on Christmas Eve.


 
 


The Crowd

Location: Hardingshute (Isle of Wight) - Road running through the area
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: September 1982
Further Comments: A couple in a car were left unnerved after encountering a large crowd of people along this road. They wore long black robes, and a few held staffs decorated with the skulls of rams. The group reportedly surrounded the car; the driver accelerated, passing through the figures that then faded away.


 
 


Edwardian Dance

Location: Hare Hatch (Berkshire) - Unnamed Georgian House
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A woman staying at in a spare room on the ground floor walked into the room and found herself looking upon a dinner party, the attendees wearing Edwardian attire. The diners looked at the woman in surprise, and then vanished. She was later told that the spare room was once part of the dining room. A phantom man in riding gear has also been observe din the same room.


 
 


Hastings Castle

Location: Hastings (Sussex) - Hastings Castle
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: An image of Hastings Castle has been reportedly seen floating over the sea, flags flying and in the condition one would imagine it to be in several hundred years ago.


 
 


Crowd with Torches

Location: Havenstreet (Isle of Wight) - Road leading to village, and area near Hare & Hounds Inn
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 4 January 1969
Further Comments: A couple out in their car found themselves surrounded by hundreds of people running across nearby fields holding burning touches. As they drove to the nearby village, one of the figures stepped out in the road and passed straight through their car.


 
 


Cottage

Location: Haytor (Devon) - Woods near the village
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Said to come and go irregularly, the cottage matches none that can be remembered or placed in the area.


 
 


Battleground

Location: Inveraray (Argyll and Bute) - Skies around Inveraray Castle
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 10 July 1758
Further Comments: A total of five witnesses in two different places watched a battle over the skies of the castle, between the Highlander regiment and garrisoned French troops. This mirrored real events in America, where 300 Highlanders were killed assaulting a fort.


 
 


Time Slip

Location: Iona, Mull (Argyll and Bute) - Abbey
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 1940s?
Further Comments: A clergyman visiting the island reported seeing the abbey in its former glory - he almost drowned when approaching the building, believing that he was walking on a causeway that no longer existed. Friends managed to save him. There are also stories that say Viking longboats sometimes appear off the coast, depositing phantom raiders who go on to attack the abbey, while people still report hearing singing coming from the empty abbey.


 
 


Island Covered in Buildings

Location: Isle of Sanday (Orkney) - Off coast of island, in sky
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 1840, 1857
Further Comments: This island, covered in fantastic white buildings, has appeared twice in the sky just off the coast. On one instance it remained viable for most of the day. Some people believe it to be the Fairy Isle, while others say it was a mirage of a part of Norway.


 
 


Kilstiveen

Location: Lahinch (County Clare) - Sea west of town
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Prior to disaster (reoccurring)
Further Comments: The town of Kilstiveen was submerged by a giant tidal wave, its inhabitants washed away to drown. The ghost town occasionally is glimpsed by fishermen.


 
 


Raided Building

Location: Langley (Durham) - Langley Hall
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: Over the past two hundred years, there have been several reports of this building seen to be on fire with soldiers running around its base - the vision vanishes if investigated. Another tale of the area tells of a headless coachman who drives a phantom coach.


 
 


Battle

Location: Lewes (Sussex) - Offham Hill
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 25 May (reoccurring)
Further Comments: This battle fought around the 1300's is still reportedly heard in May - over 3000 people are said to have been killed. The exact date may vary, though the phantom event always occurs in late May.


 
 


Sounds of Action

Location: Lindholme (Yorkshire) - Former WW2 Air Force Base
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 1962
Further Comments: A witness recalled how he and a friend were walking across the deserted airfield at night, and seeing a strange light in the control tower. Both knowing that the building should have been empty, the illumination unnerved them slightly. As they passed by a hanger, they were suddenly surrounded by the sounds of activity - they could hear the hanger doors screeching open, the engines of aircraft starting up, and the patter of many pairs of feet running by them, though nothing could be seen.


 
 


Cathedral Bells

Location: Llangorse Lake (Wales) - General area
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Holy Days (reoccurring)
Further Comments: A cathedral once stood in this spot before it was flooded - the tower bells now ring out on select days of the year.


 
 


Isolated Cottage

Location: Loch Mullardoch (Highland) - Waterline
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: This cottage vanished into thin air before the witnesses could reach it - apparently the small building stood on the water's edge at the start of the twentieth century, but was submerged and lost forever as the loch's water level rose.


 
 


The Demon Oak Tree

Location: Nannau (Wales) - Ceubren yr Elbyl
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Pre 1813
Further Comments: An oak tree which was once used to conceal a dead body was considered haunted; locals were fearful of walking by the tree at night. The tree eventually fell and was destroyed, though some say that the oak sometimes comes back.


 
 


Gibbet

Location: Newbridge (Isle of Wight) - Dodpits Cross
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: October 1928
Further Comments: A young girl walking home encountered a gibbet with the body of a bearded man swinging from it at this junction. She ran off, and looking over her shoulder once more, realised that gibbet and man had vanished, replaced by the normal junction signpost.


 
 


Cottage with Pond

Location: Newport (Isle of Wight) - Sandy Lane
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1951 / 1952
Further Comments: A lad cycling down Sandy Lane recalled seeing a picturesque farm house with a pond just in front of it. Years later the (now grown) man tried to find the dwelling, but could find no evidence the property or pond ever existed.


 
 


Fordson Tractor

Location: Normanton (Yorkshire) - RAF Bottesford (aka RAF Normanton) - no longer operational
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 04 October 2009
Further Comments: A visitor to the site heard what he first thought was an old Fordson tractor ticking over, though the sound later changed to an aircraft carrying out pre flight checks.


 
 


Battlefield

Location: Pitlochry (Perth and Kinross) - Pass of Killiecrankie
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 27 July (reoccurring)
Further Comments: The bloody battleground between English Government and Jacobite Highlanders, the anniversary of the battle is marked by the ground turning blood red. Reports of soldiers in English and Scottish regalia, both laying dead and others fighting, have also been recorded. As if this was not enough, the area is also haunted by the drifting head of a woman murdered on the site during the seventeenth century, and the tall white spectre who tries to grab people passing along the roads; anyone the ghost touches dies within the year...


 
 


Dying Highwayman

Location: Pluckley (Kent) - Fright Corner
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A large spectral tree has been seen here, together with a highwayman pinned to it by several swords. On other occasions, an elderly phantom woman is spotted; thought to be a gypsy woman, she accidentally set herself on fire with her pipe while sleeping.


 
 


Lamps

Location: Poole (Dorset) - United Reformed Church, Skinner Street
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: It has been said that sometimes one can see box pews and brass lamps within the church, even though the items were removed in the nineteenth century.


 
 


Overlord

Location: Portland (Dorset) - Unstated public gardens
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: May 1976
Further Comments: While walking his dog early one quiet May morning, Mr Murphy suddenly found himself surrounded by tanks, jeeps and American soldiers walking around. Then, as suddenly as they had appeared, the scene vanished, leaving both Murphy and his dog shaking. The witness speculated that he had witnessed a brief moment when soldiers were making final preparations for the D Day landings.


 
 


Double Fronted Georgian House in Mist

Location: Rougham (Suffolk) - Kingshall Street?
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: 'In the days before automobiles' a house with a beautiful garden appeared along Kingshall Street. A witness had never seen the building before, so went to investigate, only to see the house engulfed by mist and disappearing to leave an empty field.


 
 


Coffee Shop

Location: Royal Tunbridge Wells (Kent) - Calverley Road
Type: Environmental Manifestation
Date / Time: 18 June 1968
Further Comments: A woman in a supermarket spotted an old fashioned coffee shop frequented by several smartly dressed people, through a doorway in the shop. A little while later she returned to the site with her husband, but was unable to find the coffee shop. After a little research, they discovered a bar had existed on the site many years previous.
