Ornate Coach

Location: A9 - From Pitlochry heading towards Newtonmore
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown - 2000s?
Further Comments: A husband and wife, together with their 12 year old son, all saw a golden coach pulled by white horses, accompanied by well dressed coachmen in white wigs. Even though the road was quite busy, the coach travelled towards oncoming traffic, albeit on the side of the road, but no other drivers appeared to notice it.


 
The Doom of Airlie Castle

Location: Airlie - Airlie Castle
Type: Legend
Date / Time: When ill-fortune strikes
Further Comments: This harbinger of doom takes the form of a ram that walks a lap of the gardens prior to disaster. A drumming sound is also reported to herald a death in the family.


 
Modred's House

Location: Alyth - Dunbarre Castle
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This castle is said to be the former base of Modred, the nephew of King Arthur. He was killed when the fort was overrun by Scots and Picts. Guinevere may have also been killed here, and is reportedly buried at nearby Meigle.


 
The Thing

Location: Bankfoot - Bankfoot Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2008-2015
Further Comments: Affectionately known as 'The Thing', this entity is said to be a shadowy older male and has been seen standing at the base of beds. Whispers have also been heard on site and items have been knocked over by something unseen.


 
Large Hound

Location: Blairgowrie - A93 north of the town
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This phantom dog, said to be huge, patrols the road. Its presence makes normal dogs nervous and horses shy.


 
Lady Jean Sings

Location: Blairgowrie - Newton Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: Lady Jean Drummond used witchcraft to seduce and marry the local laird, but those who taught her the magical arts came and abducted Jean on the wedding night. She now sings sad love songs from the tower, and has been seen passing through the castle.


 
Crying

Location: Bridge of Earn - Moncrieffe Arms Hotel
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Strange sobs have been heard coming from empty guest bedrooms, and hollow footfalls fill the air.


 
Child Killer

Location: Callander - Loch Venachar
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 1800
Further Comments: The water horse in this loch was blamed for the deaths of children who were attempting to cross the water.


 
Urisk

Location: Clifton - Eas Na H'urvisg - waterfall
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The cascade of water is named after the human/fairy hybrid that once lived there.


 
Green Lady

Location: Comrie - Royal Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This phantom woman, dressed in a flowing green dress, wanders the corridors looking for her lost love who perished in a snow storm.


 
Lady Mary

Location: Crieff - Ferntower House, tower (no longer standing)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1940
Further Comments: Polish troops based at this house claimed the tower was haunted by a white woman. The tower was demolished in 1963.


 
Man in Tweed

Location: Crieff - Rosebank Hotel (no longer operational)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1992
Further Comments: While waiting alone in the bar, a witness watched a man in a tweed jacket walk through the wall and, after taking a couple more steps, vanish just as the landlady entered. The witness told the woman what he had seen, and she said that she too had seen the figure. The wall he had passed through where the original bar door was before refurbishments.


 
Messy Shop

Location: Crieff - Undisclosed general store in the town
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1980s - 2000s
Further Comments: This poltergeist has spent almost twenty years pushing items from shelving when no one is near, opening and closing doors, and flicking the light switches.


 
White Lady

Location: Dundee - HMP Castle Huntly, open prison
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Her white robes flowing as she walks, the white lady is said to leapt from the battlements to escape punishment after being caught with a manservant. A young boy that also haunts the site is thought to be Richard Paterson who drowned in the Tay in 1939.


 
Two Chatty Women

Location: Errol - Megginch Castle

Further Comments: This pair of old women continue to natter away years after the death of the flesh.


 
Woman in an Old Dress

Location: Gilmerton - Cultoquhey House Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: August 2003
Further Comments: This hotel was reputedly haunted by a woman wearing an old dress. She would be seen always entering a certain bedroom, but never to leave. She was reputedly seen by a Dutch visitor in 2003.


 
Mariota

Location: Glengoulandie - Garth Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The laird's wife died under strange circumstances in the early sixteenth century, sightings of her ghost convincing many she was murdered by her husband.


 
White Lady

Location: Kilspindie - Lady's Brig, area of land close to Balmyre Farm
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The history of this phantom female is unknown, but speculated to have been murdered, or was a murderer, or could have been a nun. Or all three. Or none.


 
Mary Queen of Scots

Location: Kinross - Loch Leven Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The Queen of Scots reportedly haunts the building where she signed her abdication.


 
Bible Burner

Location: Kinross - Minister's House
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1718
Further Comments: The minister of the building managed to recover his Bible without too much harm being bestowed upon it, after an invisible presence threw the book in the fireplace. The spirit would tear clothing, and hide pins and needles in cooked foods.


 
Tinker

Location: Kirkmichael - Ashintully Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: During life, the tinker was found and hanged for trespassing - his ghost is now seen around the trees near where he died. Two more spirits, carrying the cute names of Crooked Davie & Green Jane, are rumoured to haunt the castle grounds. The sound of screaming has also been reported here.


 
Druid

Location: Kirkmichael - The Old Manse
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Complete with long white beard and golden sickle, this figure haunts the area where his temple stood before the manse was constructed. Do not mistake this ghost as being overly quaint, as the screams of human blood sacrifices can be heard from the same area after dark.


 
Lady of Lawers

Location: Lawers - General area of the ruined village, on banks of Loch Tay
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2006
Further Comments: This long deserted village is home to the phantom white lady of Lawers. Workers at a nearby hotel report the feeling of being watched in the area.


 
Each Uisge

Location: Loch Earn - Waters of the Loch
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This water horse would entice people to sit upon its back before drowning the unsuspecting victim. One story states that the creature lived in Loch Tay, but was driven out and relocated here.


 
Water Cows

Location: Loch Tay - General area
Type: Fairy
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Fairy cattle would constantly graze both on the land surrounding the loch, and in the still waters. Another legend suggests it was home to 'fish without fins', interpreted by some as serpentine monsters.
