Italian Actress

Location: Dunfermline - Alhambra theatre
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s?
Further Comments: The figure in black which has been observed along the aisle could be an Italian actress who broke her neck in a fall during the 1920s, or a monk. The old projection room is also said to be haunted, with people reporting an uncomfortable feeling within.

Victorian Policeman

Location: Dunfermline - Coal Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: While driving past Pittencreif Park, one witness spotted a figure dressed in a Victorian policeman's uniform standing in the shadows at a space of the wall.

Soldier

Location: Dunfermline - Ferry Toll Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: July 2009
Further Comments: A female driver reported passing a young man dressed in military uniform walking towards the dockyard. She checked her rear view mirror to have another look at him, but he had vanished. The witness said there would not have been time for him to turn off.

Gentleman with Rapier

Location: Dunfermline - Hotel, (demolished nineteenth century)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: A guest staying at the hotel watched an old gentleman armed with a rapier enter his bedroom and open a storage chest. The gentleman searched the chest but seemingly not finding anything of interest, left the room. The guest returned to the same room twice more over the next couple of months, and the same event occurred. On the final occasion, the guest tried to talk to the figure, but failed.

Woman in Floral Grey Blouse

Location: Dunfermline - Mill Street
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: 11 April 2014, 00;30h
Further Comments: Two people walking home spotted a female figure in the distance behind them. They stopped for a while and the figure caught up with them. She was described as having long wavy grey hair and piercing black eyes. The entity was dressed in a floral grey blouse with long lapels, black blazer, and long grey skirt. The witnesses looked at each other and turned back to the woman, but she had gone.

Room Lurker

Location: Dunfermline - Unnamed house in Pitreavie
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa nineteenth century
Further Comments: An unidentified entity was said to lurk in a particular room of this house, and when a group of labourers stayed within, they would all remain in the same large room, refusing to sleep alone in other parts of the site.

Cheese Press

Location: Dunfermline - Witch's Stone, Crossford
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Stone destroyed 1972
Further Comments: A witch transporting a cheese press to a family accidently dropped it. The 200 tonne rock landed on a field where it was left for a few hundred years until blown up.

Doom Park

Location: Earlsferry - Unidentified park
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: Early twentieth century?
Further Comments: A circular piece of ground, surrounded by a low wall, was said to have been left untouched by human hands as it belonged to the Devil. It was officially known as the Dome Park, but as it was believed that only evil people were buried there, it acquired the name Doom Park.

Mary Sibbald

Location: East Wemyss - MacDuff's Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A petty thief, Mary was killed for her crimes - her shadowy form has been reported at the castle ever since.

Mary?

Location: Falkland - Covenanter Hotel, High Street?
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The phantom female that is said to lurk here has been named as Mary Queen of Scots. She occasionally appears standing over guests in their beds.

Female Form

Location: Falkland - Falkland Palace
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The phantom woman is said to walk the gallery in the palace, looking for her lost lover.

White Lady

Location: Falkland - Road between Auchtermuchty and Falkland, close to woods
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 2004
Further Comments: Three people observed a blanket of mist which took the form of a figure as they drove past. The entity was named as 'Jenny', a local girl who killed herself after her lover left.

Discarded Bells

Location: Firth of Forth - Under the estuary
Type: Other
Date / Time: 25 December (reoccurring)
Further Comments: After the bells were looted from churches across Edinburgh and tossed into the estuary, they continued to ring at Christmas.

Black Creature

Location: Firth of Forth - Waters of
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 1873 / 1939
Further Comments: The earlier sighting here lasted around fifteen minutes, and the serpentine creature was seen by over one hundred people. The twentieth century sighting was of a totally different creature, this time brown in colour and possessing a horse's head with large eyes.

Hanging Jock

Location: Fordell - Area around the village mill
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Jock's master killed a couple of soldiers and fled to avoid the consequences, leaving the poor assistant to pay the ultimate price for the crime. Now Jock is sometimes seen swinging from the trees by his neck, eyes milky and bulging.

Jock

Location: Fordell - Tree close to a mill (neither likely to standing)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Seventeenth century
Further Comments: Jock's employer, the miller, poisoned four soldiers who tried to abuse his wife and daughter. The miller left the area before more soldiers arrived to avenge the deaths of their colleagues. Finding Jock, the soldiers hanged him instead, leaving his body dangling from a nearby tree. Jock remained in the area, manifesting after nightfall, swinging from the branches.

Sea Folk

Location: Inchkeith - General area
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The area around the island was said to be home to many mermaids and kelpies.

Miner

Location: Kelty - Blairadam Forest
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2007
Further Comments: A man who snapped several photographs of his family in the woods claimed to have captured the image of a phantom miner wearing a flat cap.

White Lady

Location: Kemback - Bridge and surrounding area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A female member of the Schivas family was hanged from the bridge after she refused to betray her husband. Her shade was said to haunt the area of her death.

White Ladies

Location: Kilmany - Area known as Ghouls' Den (aka Gouls Den), near Kilmany Cottage
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Two white ladies are said to lurk in the ravine, as are the ghosts of people who found the area so pretty that they were unable to leave.

Yolande

Location: Kinghorn - Memorial to Alexander, along road to Burntisland
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Dressed in green, the wife of Alexander III appears in the area trying to find her missing husband.

Short Break

Location: Kinghorn - Unknown house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Likely to be nineteenth century
Further Comments: A spirit which haunted the house told the inhabitants that it was going to take a seven year rest. It is unknown whether the entity returned or further extended its vacation.

Future Events

Location: Kirkcaldy - Bell Craig (or crag?) (no longer present)
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Weather dependent: stormy nights (piper), cave activity unknown
Further Comments: The crag was said to be haunted by a phantom bagpiper, who would be heard when weather conditions were right. In addition, a cave, since destroyed by mining, was believed to be perfectly located between heaven and hell, and as such, visitors within could see the future.

Black Fish

Location: Kirkcaldy - Harbour area
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: September 1874
Further Comments: A ship managed to bring a strange black fish to shore. The fish measured seven foot (2.1 metres) in length, half of which was a horned head with a mouth filled with sharp teeth. When the side of the fish was pieced, several flounders escaped. The black fish was set free.

Jenny

Location: Kirkcaldy - Kinswood Hotel
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century?
Further Comments: When a private house, this building was haunted by a white woman in a beautiful flowing dress. There were also reports of a phantom goose, which would peck at the young girl who lived there.
