Bacon

Location: W4 - Chiswick House, off Burlington Lane

Further Comments: The smell of frying bacon haunts the north wing, where the kitchens once stood in the nineteenth century. Lady Burlington is reported to haunt her former bedroom, appearing as a reflection in a mirror on the wall.


 
Mrs Abercrombie Walking

Location: W4 - Chiswick Police Station, Chiswick High Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: The site of a grisly murder in 1792, when Mrs Abercrombie's son-in-law hit her several times with a large axe. The woman is now said to haunt the building; when not heard pacing around, she materialises in the upper regions.


 
Dissipating Mist

Location: W4 - Former Chiswick Warehouse, now apartments (Heathfield Terrace)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth Century
Further Comments: A misty, indistinct apparition reportedly haunted the upper areas of the warehouse, quickly disappearing if anyone came too near.


 
White Figure

Location: W4 - Hammersmith Churchyard and Black Lion Lane area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1804
Further Comments: This ghost was blamed for the death of a local woman, who collapsed and died a few hours after witnessing the entity. A hunt for the spook resulted in another local man being shot by mistake (he was wearing white clothing), and the ghost sightings trailed off soon after.


 
Man in Wide Brimmed Hat

Location: W4 - Old Burlington, Church Street

Further Comments: Once a public house, this building is reportedly haunted by a man wearing a black cloak and wide brimmed hat, nicknamed Percy.


 
Three Men

Location: W4 - Old Pack Horse, 434 Chiswick High Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000
Further Comments: Four staff in total reported seeing three phantom men in a certain room of the pub - a young boy, and man in his twenties, and an older man. The man in his twenties would also be heard whistling. A former landlord also reported seeing a horse in the cellar.


 
Flying Money

Location: W4 - Private house, Esmond Road, Cheswick
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: July 1956
Further Comments: A polt outbreak here saw dozens of coins and other small metallic items fly across rooms and hit witnesses - the events stopped once the family's son was sent away to live with relatives.


 
Medieval Knight

Location: W4 - Private residence, Turnham Green
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 1954
Further Comments: A composer and their daughter were said to have lived in a house haunted by a medieval knight.


 
Cromwell's Daughters

Location: W4 - St Nicholas's Churchyard, Church Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: Walking in the churchyard at the crack of dawn, Mary and Frances head towards their unmarked graves and vanish.


 
Woman in Black

Location: W4 - Tabard Inn, Bath Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Seen sitting alone at a table in the public house, this old woman appeared to be whistling a tune, though no sound could be heard.


 
Burning Triangle

Location: W5 - Uxbridge Road, Ealing
Type: UFO
Date / Time: July 2006
Further Comments: Five office workers watched a triangular object with burning corners move across the sky from north to south. They only watched the ufo for a few seconds before it disappeared from view, moving at high speed.


 
Barbara Villiers

Location: W5 - Walpole House, Chiswick Mall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Weather Dependent: Stormy, moonlit nights
Further Comments: Barbara was once a beautiful young lady, until she contracted a disease that swelled her body to a huge size - her bitter shade now walks the house, acting threateningly towards any who see her.


 
Bar Walker

Location: W5 - West Five public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2005
Further Comments: A former employee at this pub recalled how staff would see someone walking through the bar out of the corner of their eye, even though the area would be empty. The same event would also occur in the cellar.


 
Sulphur and Footfalls

Location: W5 - 16 Montpelier Road, Ealing
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: No longer standing, one house here had a history that included 20 suicides and a murder. Even after its destruction, strange smells and ghostly footsteps were reported in the area.


 
Lady Boston

Location: W5 - Boston House, & Burlington Lane, Brentford
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early twentieth century
Further Comments: Murdered by her Viscount Boston after he discovered her affair with Lord Fairfax, Lady Boston's body was thrown into the Thames by her husband. He later removed it and buried the remains in a corner of the garden - it is this spot that her ghost has been seen, pointing to the ground.


 
The Brentford Griffins

Location: W5 - Brentwood Eyot and general area
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A griffin given by King Charles II to Nell Gwynn made its home on the Brentwood Eyot, joined by another one dozens of years later which was brought to the region by Sir Joseph Banks. The pair of mythological creatures are said by some to remain in the area.


 
Rebecca

Location: W5 - Maudsley Hospital
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: When the Hospital of the Star of Bethlehem moved and merged with Maudsley hospital in the 1920s, the ghost of Rebecca is said to have come along as well, still looking for her missing coin.


 
Hanged Airman

Location: W5 - Photographer's studio, exact location unknown
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Mid twentieth century
Further Comments: This building was home to a ghost that could be heard walking about and mumbling to itself. It was thought the airman was executed in the 1940s for killing a child.


 
Man and Dog and Boy

Location: W5 - Private house along Montpelier Road, Peckham
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2001 - 2002
Further Comments: The ghost of a contemporary man, a dog and a Victorian boy reportedly haunt this building, with poltergeist like effects also being documented - these included electrical equipment being turned on and off, door handles moving, and unaccountable footsteps and banging.


 
Tall Lady

Location: W6 - Beavor Lodge (no longer standing), Beavor Lane
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Appearing at random times of the day and night, this tall grey lady could also be heard crying.


 
Tall Man with Fire for Eyes

Location: W6 - St Paul's Churchyard, Queen Caroline Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 03 August (or July), just prior to midnight, every fifty years (next in 2055)
Further Comments: First seen in 1805, the original witness is said to have died of shock shortly after seeing the towering figure whose eyes gleamed with fire. Since then, no further reports have emerged, other than mistaken identities.


 
Lady in White Dress

Location: W7 - Osterley, Osterley Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1978
Further Comments: This entity was seen several times by a group of school children as they were shown around the buildings. The main staircase and the tapestry room are said to be hotspots.


 
Earl of Holland

Location: W8 - Holland Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1965
Further Comments: The building was given to General Fairfax as a 'thank you' present after he executed the Earl of Holland - the Earl was less than happy with this arrangement, and his ghost continues to protest at the injustice.


 
Little Girl

Location: W8 - Kensington Church Street, house along
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: A house along this road is reportedly haunted by a little girl in a long petticoat and pinafore. One witness said she resembled Alice in Wonderland.


 
George II

Location: W8 - Kensington Palace
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Looking at the weather vane, waiting for a message from Hanover, George II has been seen looking out of a palace window. Another ghost, thought to be Sophia (aunt of Queen Victoria), can be heard operating an old spinning wheel late at night and the final entity takes the form of a man wearing breeches and walks around the courtyard.
