Hitching Airman

Location: Kelstern - Road leading to the former RAF Kelstern
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1983
Further Comments: The man dressed in an old RAF uniform tries to hitch a lift to the now ruined airbase. There are also reports of the sounds of an old aircraft in the skies and along the former runways.


Location: Kelvedon Hatch - Secret Nuclear Bunker
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2010s?
Further Comments: This former nuclear bunker is said to be home to a poltergeist. An unconvincing photograph was taken in 2013 showing either a 'portal' or the reflection of flash off a window.

Shuck Home

Location: Kirton - Belle Hole Farm, and nearby stream
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: 1930s
Further Comments: A shuck is said to have set up home in a hole in the stream bank near this farmhouse. The farmer's wife reported seeing the creature enter the kitchen - she dared not move until the shuck left on its own accord.

Victorian Woman

Location: Kirton - Old King's Head
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This public house is reputed to be haunted by a Victorian woman, spotted at the top of the staircase. One version of the story says she may be responsible for pushing people as they descend.


Location: Kirton in Lindsey - Former RAF base
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Post World War Two (screaming), pilot spotted 1990-1995
Further Comments: The phantom screams of pain are thought to date from an air raid which killed many French pilots. One of these men has also been observed lurking by an old hanger, and may have been spotted during the early 1990s by two witnesses in the clubhouse.


Location: Kirton Lindsey - Road between Kirton and Grayingham
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century?
Further Comments: A man named Copeman who was murdered along the road may still haunt the area on horseback. He was seen by two men cycling back from Kirton.

Lady-faced Dog

Location: Knaith - Area around cottage, no longer standing
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A story here tells of shuck that possessed the face of a woman, or sometimes a woman who had the face of a dog. The hound would emerge from the hills close to where the lady lived. The woman is thought to have once been a normal person who underwent the transformation after she was murdered.


Location: Laughton (8 miles south of Scunthorpe) - All Saint's Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970s
Further Comments: Mysterious footsteps, belonging to a small group of ghostly people, have been heard coming down the staircase in the church tower. A builder repairing the tower refused to work alone after twice encountering the footfalls.

Calf Sized Dog

Location: Leverton - Road between village and Wrangle
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: Early twentieth century or December 2002
Further Comments: An early twentieth century witness reported seeing this creature several times over the years, always when cycling at night between the two villages. A more recent witness heard howling and spotted two red eyes - after the witness's uncle died a short time later, they believed what they had encountered was a shuck.

Finger Lickin' Good

Location: Lincoln - Queen Anne's Well, cathedral area
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: Well still present
Further Comments: There are six holes in the door to the well. Legend says if you walk around the well seven times and place your finger in one, good people are awarded with feeling the breath of the Devil on their digit, while bad people have their finger bitten off.

Clark's Dog Too

Location: Lincoln - Strugglers Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation

Further Comments: The hungry phantom hound reported to haunt the castle walls would sometimes try to enter this inn, scratching and barking at the door.


Location: Lincoln - The Lawn public house (former hospital)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: While The Lawn is currently a popular drinking venue, it was once one of the first mental asylums in the UK - former inmates are still said to reside in the building, wailing and screaming.


Location: Lincoln - Theatre Royal
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: Some people have reported feeling a gentle 'nudge' while no one else is nearby. Footsteps have been heard crossing the empty stage, and shadowy figures are glimpsed briefly before vanishing.

White Woman

Location: Lincoln - Victorian Prison, Lincoln Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Woman unknown, footsteps in October 2003
Further Comments: This pale woman is thought to have been a former prisoner who died during her stay. Witnesses have also reported the sounds of doors slamming and keys jangling in the area. One witness heard footsteps and the rustling of a dress - when they looked around, no one could be seen.


Location: Lincoln - White Hart Hotel, Bailgate
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: Several spooky phenomena have been reported here, including a floating ball of light, a girl in a mop cap, the sound of a gunshot, a faceless highwayman, and food that would jump off a plate in the restaurant. A young man who took his life in the building is blamed for most of the occurrences.


Location: Lincoln - Witch and Wardrobe public house

Further Comments: Stories say that pumps have been known to activate themselves, and ice is thrown around by an invisible hand. PIPS (Paranormal Investigators Parker / Sherwood) investigated this location in 2010 and recorded EVP and high EMF fields.

Grey Lady

Location: Lincoln - Black Horse restaurant
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1980s onward
Further Comments: Wearing a long dress, this phantom woman caused one cleaner to run away terrified. The ghost has also been seen standing outside the building - the witness this time described the woman has having a blurry face. The pub is also reportedly plagued by general poltergeist behaviour.

Further Comments: Staff have nicknamed this young phantom lad Humphrey. He occasionally puts in an appearance, running around the shop. A young girl is also said to haunt the building, as is the sound of money being counted.

Bottom Pincher

Location: Lincoln - Castle Hill Club
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2000s?
Further Comments: This mischievous spirit is reported to pinch the bottoms of unsuspecting visitors.

Lady in Black

Location: Lincoln - Cobb Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This horrid ghost reportedly once tried to push a young child down the staircase, saved only by the quick reflexes of the father who then watched the woman disappear from view.

Young Boy

Location: Lincoln - Coffee shop (exact location withheld)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Circa 2011
Further Comments: It was reported that this coffee shop was haunted by a young boy who had been seen close to the toilets. One member of staff spotted a middle aged man in a grey suit upstairs in the café just as the shop was closing and was empty. When the member of staff went upstairs to speak to the man, he had vanished.

Young Man

Location: Lincoln - Cornhill Vaults public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s?
Further Comments: A member of staff was left puzzled after seeing a young man with a collarless shirt walk up to the bar vanish when she turned her back for a few seconds. The only other customer in the bar denied seeing any one in the first place.

Dark Shadows

Location: Lincoln - Council house along Prial Avenue
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 2004 - February 2010
Further Comments: Jade Callaby reported to local media that she had experienced poltergeist occurrences over a six year period, including dark shadows which appeared without source, electrical items which turned themselves on and off, and strange banging noises.


Location: Lincoln - County Assembly Rooms, Bailgate
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: A phantom Cavalier was spotted by a member of staff near the ballroom, before vanishing into the preverbal thin air. Other staff members are reportedly too afraid to venture down into the basement after hearing strange noises.

Guardian Angel?

Location: Lincoln - Edward King's House
Type: Other
Date / Time: Late nineteenth century
Further Comments: Two would-be robbers who had lured the bishop from his home in the late nineteenth century were deterred from committing the crime by a large figure they saw leave the house escorting the man of the cloth. When one of the criminals confessed his intention to the bishop many years later, the bishop was very surprised as he had been travelling by himself on that night.
