Veiled Lady

Location: Leicester - West Chapel at Crematorium, Groby Cemetery
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: June 2008
Further Comments: Wearing Edwardian or Victorian mourning dress, a shadowy veiled woman was spotted by two witnesses. The figure disappeared into a hearse, and when the witnesses check the vehicle, it was empty.


 
Ivy

Location: Leicester - Donisthorpe Mills, Bath Lane (as of June 2009, in process of being demolished)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early 1980s
Further Comments: The yard was said to be haunted by 'Ivy', a short woman who wore dark clothing, had grey hair, and whose face was covered in warts. A nightshift worker who ventured out of a quick cigarette encountered her, ensuring that he never went outside alone again.


 
Post Man

Location: Leicester - Rail Station
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: More often felt than seen, the phantom which haunts the station is reputedly a postman. The ghost is said to be non-threatening and has been nicknamed Henry.


 
May

Location: Leicester - Braunstone Hall and Park
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Several phantoms are reported to haunt this area, including a young woman in white who walks the corridors. She is named as May, who died aged eighteen of tuberculosis. Other phantoms are said to be carriages pulled by black horses which vanish into the trees, a groom who hanged himself in a room above the stables, and a sad looking boy who glazes from an upstairs window.


 
Richard III

Location: Leicester - Car park (and surrounding area)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2005 - 2013
Further Comments: Philippa Langley felt a strange sensation crossing this car park, on a location marked by an 'R', and virtually on top of the location where Richard III's body was later found (the 'R' has been in the car park since the eighties and was painted by an attendant). The offices of Denham Foxon & Watchorn which overlook the car park were reported to be home to mysterious noises, also (now) blamed on the king.


 
Engineer

Location: Leicester - Abbey Pumping Station Museum
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: An engineer fell to his death in the beam engine house. His spirit still lingers, playing with lights and making noises in the basement.


 
Hooded Figure

Location: Leicester - Churchyard, Cathedral Church of St Martin (aka Leicester Cathedral)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This hooded phantom was said to glide and periodically kneel with its head on the ground, as if listening to the earth.


 
Shadowy Figure

Location: Leicester - Friar Lane (though topographical area has changed since report)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Likely early twentieth century
Further Comments: Normally manifesting as a set of footsteps which would follow people as they walked down this road towards St Mary's church, the shadow of this ghost once manifested and revealed itself to be headless and humped to one witness.


 
Rail Worker

Location: Loughborough - Loughborough Central Station
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Holding an oil lamp, this semi-transparent figure in an old railway uniform is said to lurk on platform 1.


 
John Cook

Location: Lutterworth - The Springs House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1906
Further Comments: A young maid who had just started at the house awoke to see a young man in old fashioned clothing at the foot of the bed. He vanished into thin air, and the maid was so frightened by her experience that she never stayed overnight at the house again. The phantom was named as John Cook, a former resident of the house who had been murdered fifty years previous.


 
Headless Soldier

Location: Market Bosworth - Lanes of village
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Having been decapitated in the Battle of Bosworth Field, this fighter wanders the roads and lanes looking for his missing head.


 
Captain

Location: Market Harborough - Harborough Theatre
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2004
Further Comments: The theatre is haunted by the spirit of a sea captain. The ghost is also said to have haunted the hotel which once stood on the site before the theatre was construction. Though the spectre itself was not seen, a team of ghost hunters detected cold spots when they investigated the site in 2004.


 
Dark Torpedo

Location: Market Harborough - Skies over town
Type: UFO
Date / Time: May 1909?
Further Comments: Reported as being over thirty metres long, this long, thin scareship of unknown origin passed over the town late at night.


 
Hanged Man

Location: Market Harborough - The Sun public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s
Further Comments: The cellar is reported to be haunted by male criminal who was hanged many years ago. When the Northants Haunted team investigated the building, they reported shouting coming from the empty cellar, as well as making contact with the spirit of a twelve year old boy.


 
John Fothergill

Location: Market Harborough - Three Swans Hotel

Further Comments: The portrait of John Fothergill that hangs above the bar is no longer touched - if removed from its spot a disaster befalls the handler or hotel.


 
Murdered Woman

Location: Market Harborough - Angel Hotel

Further Comments: The bar in the area that once housed the stables is reputedly haunted by a woman once murdered here.


 
Typewriter

Location: Market Harborough - Market Harborough Building Society
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Mid-late twentieth century
Further Comments: This building was haunted by the sound of a typewriter clacking away. One member of staff seeing a typewriter by her side start to type by itself.


 
Grey Figure

Location: Markfield - Graveyard

Further Comments: Several witnesses are said to have seen the grey phantom as it walked past gravestones.


 
Busy Cats

Location: Measham - General area
Type: ABC

Further Comments: The start of the twenty first century saw a record number of puma sightings in Leicestershire, exceeding 150 reports of the creature(s).


 
Dark Figures

Location: Measham - Michael's Plaice fish & chip shop (no longer open)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2007
Further Comments: After the owner encountered ghostly dark figures and experienced poltergeist activity, Spirit Team UK were called in to investigate. They reported an old man hanging around in the upper part of the building, while a small child was encountered downstairs.


 
Bloody Footprint

Location: Misterton - St Leon's church
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Cornered in the churchyard by a band of robbers and faced with certain death, a peddler declared that whomever struck him down would be forced to haunt the site of his murder. This failed to prevent the peddler being murdered, but after the killer was caught and executed, a bloody footprint appeared at the scene of the crime and is still said to appear once a year.


 
Five to Four Fred

Location: Newton Burgoland - The Belper Arms

Date / Time: 03:55 or 15:55 (reoccurring)
Further Comments: Only acting at certain times of the day (hence his nickname), Fred has been known to slap or stroke female witnesses, and to try to smother male ones.


 
Hunchback

Location: Oxenden Magma - St Helen's Church
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A ghostly person with a hunch back has been reported around the church area.


 
Decapitated Figure

Location: Quorndon - Footpath between Quorndon and Barrow upon Soar

Further Comments: A headless phantom has been reported in this area.


 
Gregory

Location: Rothley - Woodman's Stroke public house

Further Comments: A tall ghost nicknamed Gregory is said to bring luck to anyone who spots him in this pub.
