Further Comments: Two women walking their dogs encountered a ghostly apparition here. While one of the witnesses described the figure as a black human shape, the other perceived more detail and said the entity looked like a grinning Victorian farm hand.

Further Comments: Said to be the first landlady to run the pub, she was killed by her husband as he discovered both her and her secret lover embraced on the steps outside the building. Her footsteps are still heard along the corridors.

Further Comments: Seen at least twice, the woman in brown Tutor clothing was more often heard walking across empty rooms. Doors would also open and close on their own.

Thomas Vaughan

Further Comments: After being killed in the battle of Banbury, Vaughan's spirit was reluctant to depart this plane of existence and tried to hide in this local church. It was finally trapped in a snuff box by the local holy men and banished into nearby Hergest Pool. Some variations of the story have Vaughan escape the snuff box before being laid once again, this time under a large tree on the Hergest Estate.

Old Coles

Further Comments: Long since exorcised, the phantom of Old Coles would drive his coach through the village and use the local river to cool his horses.

Further Comments: Parts of the hall were used as a hospital during both World Wars, and it was in this area that this phantom was seen walking about.

Further Comments: This figure, estimated to be at least seven foot in height, was seen a couple of times in the castle. He quickly faded away in front of the witnesses.

Further Comments: Something 'male, short and see-through' was said to have jumped on a wall here, scattering the parents and children playing in the area. One witness was said to have called the thing 'absolutely evil'.

Further Comments: A column of Roman Legionnaires were observed marching up the hill, complete with standard bearers and cavalrymen. The troops vanished when they reached the top.

Further Comments: Two women and their partners out hill walking were hounded by a large eagle-like figure. All four people were left terrified by their encounter, and one of the women collapsed with shock. One man with whom they discussed their encounter with suggested it was a 'gatekeeper entity'.
