Location: Cheltenham - Suffolk Arms public house
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: Heard in the cellar, this playful spirit knocks whenever anyone goes down into the darkness. As with so many other pub ghosts, she is blamed when items disappear.

Further Comments: The house of Captain Thomas Hardy is reputedly haunted, though by who is unclear.

Rattling Chains
Location: Cherington - Trouble House inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1930s onwards
Further Comments: Large gusts of wind were felt rushing around this public house, normally accompanied by clanking chains in the 1930s, and events grew so bad that the landlord and his family fled. A lady in a blue dress and pinafore, with either long dark hair or a hooded cloak, has been seen more recently; in 2002 she was seen carrying a tray of bottles through a back door.

Fisherman

Further Comments: A phantom fisherman was reputed to haunted a pool of water around the village - local children were warned against approaching him.

Lock Out
Location: Chipping Campden - General area

Date / Time: November 1998
Further Comments: Many motorists with remote control keys found themselves unable to open their cars until the vehicle was towed to the outskirts of town, even though locking didn't pose an issue.

Waiting Figure
Location: Cinderford - Bus stop outside Dilke Hospital (Dilke side of the road)

Date / Time: 2010, 00:30h, and again 12 February 2012, 19:00h
Further Comments: A driver spotted a figure standing at the bus stop - knowing that there was no bus due, the driver stopped to offer the figure a lift, but on doing so, no one was in sight. Eighteen months later, the driver once again drove by the bus stop to once again see a figure standing there. The driver stopped, but the figure was nowhere to be seen.

Betty
Location: Cirencester - Betty's Grave, crossroads

Further Comments: Suffering execution and burial at a crossroads for being a witch, the ghost of Betty has failed to find those who killed her and wanders lost around the area near her grave.

Old Woman
Location: Cirencester - Black Horse Hotel, Castle Street

Date / Time: 1933, signature existed until 1992 (until window was smashed)
Further Comments: An evil looking old lady who appeared in a bedroom scratched a signature into the glass window before vanishing.

Faceless Figure

Further Comments: This ghostly monk has reportedly scared one member of staff into quitting her job, and has upset several members of the public with inopportune manifestation and subsequent disappearing. Another ghost, a cavalier, has also been seen by staff members.

Further Comments: Standing against the monument, this young man has been known to talk to members of the public, only to vanish after his first sentence.

Further Comments: A couple of local men exploring the hill discovered a secret entrance; they discovered an armour clad fighter concealed inside.

Butler & House
Location: Cold Ashton - Manor House

Further Comments: A lost woman driver stopped at this building and asked the butler for directions, which he gave. However, she soon found out that the house had been empty for many years. She returned and found the building in a disused state, completely different from when she first called in.

Little Man

Further Comments: A little man-like figure was found in crawling around in a coal scuttle. The figure was carried out and left on the driveway, never to be seen again.

Further Comments: A man on horseback, considered to be a highwayman, reportedly haunts this building.

Further Comments: A phantom grey woman is said to haunt this village. She may have last been seen by a group of friends out walking across fields in the evening.

Further Comments: John Smith, a local hero, was rewarded with a large amount of land after killing a dragon that was trying to make a home in the neighbourhood.

Strange Woman

Further Comments: A female phantom dressed in green 1920s clothes was observed here. She stared intensely at the witness before quickly moving off and vanishing towards the church.

Mistimed

Further Comments: One witness described being woken by a voice calling out 'Its eight o'clock!', even though it was three in the morning. A phantom monk and a figure resembling a chambermaid have also been spotted within the walls

Grey Lady

Further Comments: A phantom woman is said to haunt this churchyard.

Eoves
Location: Evesham - General area

Date / Time: AD 701
Further Comments: Evesham is said to have taken its name from a swineherd named Eoves. He had a vision of the Madonna and reported it to the Bishop of Worchester. The Bishop instructed a cathedral be constructed on the site, naming it 'Eoves Ham'.

Town Witches

Further Comments: A small group of evil witches are said to have once plagued the town. After they died, they were buried at this crossroads, and their shades now haunt the area.

Whisperings

Date / Time: Twenty-first century?
Further Comments: The whispering voices of females were heard in the main bedroom, while the presence of a woman or girl would be felt around the stairs and the lower part of the building.

Get-it-to-Go
Location: Forest of Dean - Area around Ruardean Hill
Type: Post-Mortem Manifestation
Date / Time: 1890
Further Comments: A family living in the area reported hearing hammering and drilling sounds for several months from a disused pit close to their property. When finally investigated, the body of a man was discovered; a local stonemason nicknamed 'Get-it-to-Go' had disappeared around the time the hammering started, and although the body was in a bad state, it was identified as the missing man. The sounds stopped after the body was removed.

The Black Boy
Location: Forest of Dean - Littledean Hall

Further Comments: The Black Boy was a servant of Charles Pyke - they were always considered to be as close as brothers, until the servant killed Pyke in 1744. Now the boy haunts the building, along with a ghostly cavalier, the sounds of screaming and heavy footfalls.

Knight in Shining Armour
Location: Forest of Dean - Saint Briavel's castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Woman seen 1998
Further Comments: Seen in the grounds and along corridors of this former castle (now a hostel) a figure in armour has been known to appear. It is not known if he is responsible for the disembodied footsteps along the walkways. A young child has been heard to cry in the King's Hall (where the bones of a baby were once found walled up), and finally a ghostly woman in white was spotted on the staircase in 1998.
