Lady in White

Location: Calstock - Cotehele House
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1980
Further Comments: A young lady dressed completely in white is said to haunt this building. The ghost was seen as it descended the main staircase. Phantom music has also been reported in the house.


 
 


Bloodstain

Location: Calstock - Cotehele Quay, Bridge
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Still present?
Further Comments: A part of the bridge is reportedly stained by blood from a murder that occurred long ago - nothing has ever been able to shift the mark (although it is said to be now painted over).


 
 


Miners

Location: Calstock - Road leading to Calstock
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1970s
Further Comments: This area of road is said to be haunted by a group of miners wearing out fashioned outfits and carrying candles.


 
 


Turtle Dove

Location: Camborne - Tehidy Manor
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Prior to a death in the Basset family
Further Comments: An ill-omen, a turtle dove is said to appear to a member of the Basset family before a death.


 
 


Cyclist

Location: Camelford - Road between town and Bodmin
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1984
Further Comments: This grey figure was seen peddling away along the road before vanishing without warning.


 
 


Camlann

Location: Camelford - Slaughter Bridge
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Still present
Further Comments: This area has been named as a likely contender for the battlefield where King Arthur was killed by Mordred. Arthur's tomb is said to lie nearby.


 
 


Ringing Bell

Location: Carbis Bay - General area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1930s
Further Comments: The gentle pealing of a small bell could be heard by many people over a period of years. It was widely believed to indicate the presence of a kindly unknown presence.


 
 


Golden Coffin

Location: Carburrow Tor - Cairns
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Protected by a flock of birds, two golden coffins were believed to be buried under the cairns.


 
 


John of Gaunt

Location: Carn Brea - Stones on nearby hill
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Stones still present
Further Comments: The giant John would often throw boulders at neighbouring giants, who would toss them back at him - hence, the hillside is covered in large rocks. The giant's remains are said to be buried somewhere on the site.


 
 


Crushed Friend

Location: Carn Galva - General area
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A giant who once lived here was visited by a human friend. After a few games of quoits, the human had to leave. The giant patted his friend's head in a playful way, unfortunately forgetting his own strength - his fingers pieced the human's head, killing the man instantly. The giant died of a broken heart seven years later.


 
 


King Gerennius

Location: Carne - Carne (or Veryan) Beacon barrow
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Barrow still present
Further Comments: King Gerennius was thought to have been buried here within a ship of gold that used silver oars, though when the barrow was opened in 1855, no ship was found.


 
 


Arthur's Hunting Lodge

Location: Castle-an-Dinas - General area
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Still present
Further Comments: This area was, according to local legend, the site of King Arthur's hunting lodge.


 
 


Sisters

Location: Catchall - The Sisters (standing stones), aka Drift Stones
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Still present
Further Comments: These two standing stones are said to be sisters who were petrified after committing an unknown sin.


 
 


Grey Men

Location: Chysauster - Area of ancient village
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This site is thought to be haunted by small men, the original villagers, who lived here between 100 BC and 300 AD.


 
 


Knocking

Location: Cleave - Former military base
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: 1940s
Further Comments: The WAAF huts were said to be haunted by the sounds of knocking - armed guards were unable to pinpoint the source of the noise. The sounds faded after a few weeks.


 
 


Slipping Woman

Location: Cowloe Rock - The Irish Lady rock
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This rock is named after the woman who held on to it after her ship ran aground nearby and all hands were lost - she slipped off after a couple of hours and was drowned before rescuers could save her. Her shade has been seen struggling to remain on the outcropping.


 
 


Finny

Location: Crafthole - Finnygook Inn
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Finny was a smuggler killed in a fight with revenue men outside the pub, as he tried to transport stolen goods away from his popular hideout. His shade is blamed whenever anything out of the normal happens in the building.


 
 


Ship

Location: Croft Pasco Pool - Body of Water
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This area is said to be haunted by a large white ship, with its sails bellowing, even if there is no wind.


 
 


Storms

Location: Cubert Common - Barrow
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Barrow still present
Further Comments: Anyone who tries to dig at this site will summon a large storm.


 
 


Mermaids

Location: Cudden Point - Off coast
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This area is another haunt for the Cornish merfolk.


 
 


Beer Waster

Location: Culmhead - Holman Clavel public house
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: This playful entity has been known to pour pints of beer during the night, and to steal small items) only to return them up to months later). The sound of skittles can sometimes be heard being played, even if a set is not in use.


 
 


Flo

Location: Duporth - Duporth Holiday Village
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Late twentieth century
Further Comments: The former site of the manor house, the haunting by a nun dates back hundreds of years. Though she is rarely seen, Flo is blamed for any abnormal event around the site.


 
 


Morgawr Monster

Location: Falmouth - Bay
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 1975 / 1976 onwards
Further Comments: This huge lizard was seen several times during 1976 - one witness managed to take a couple of photographs of the creature. Several years prior to this sighting, two fishermen reportedly caught a hairy monster about six metres in length, five kilometres off the coast. Reports of a strange creature are still coming in.


 
 


Hopping Creature

Location: Falmouth - Between Swanpool and Maenporth
Type: Cryptozoology
Date / Time: 2007 - 2009
Further Comments: Several witnesses came forward over the first few months of 2009 claiming to have spotted a strange creature in bushes and trees in the area. Descriptions varied slightly between sightings, with one witness describing it as slightly larger than a dog, with a cat's face, walking on its hind legs. Another witness said it hopped away.


 
 


Cold Spots

Location: Falmouth - Pendennis Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 17 June 1982
Further Comments: One witness reported encountering cold spots in the armoury, even though it was a bright summer's day. They also felt intense misery in the room, though when they returned the following day, nothing untoward could be detected.
