Elderly Lady

Location: West Wratting - Weston Colville Hall (divided into apartments)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1973 - 1976
Further Comments: This phantom old lady, with greying red hair and wearing a black dress was seen several times by the tenants of one of the homes. She is thought to be one of the two elderly women who lived at the hall during World War Two.

Charlie Presence

Location: Whittlesey - The Black Bull public house, Market Street

Further Comments: Little is known about the ghost affectionately known as Charlie Presence.


Location: Whittlesford - Barrows (no longer present)
Type: Unknown Ghost Type
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: These prehistoric barrows were destroyed to make room for farmland, though one story states that one farmhand found and removed a human skull from the site, only to have the rest of the skeleton visit him during the following night, demanding the return of its head.

The Not Quite Dead

Location: Whittlesford - Churchyard
Type: Manifestation of the Living
Date / Time: 24 April (St Mark's Eve) (reoccurring)
Further Comments: All those who will be buried in the churchyard over the next twelve months appear here and lay in the correct place, before being absorbed into the ground.

Victorian Road Crossers

Location: Whittlesford - Whittlesford Road to Cambridge
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 04 January 2005
Further Comments: A driver reported three male figures dressed in Victorian clothing which walked across the road in front of his car. The vehicle went straight through them, leaving the witness cold, sick and very shaken.


Location: Wicken - Wicken Fen

Further Comments: A calf-sized dog bringing death to all that see it runs this area of the Fen, which is currently a nature reserve.


Location: Wicken - Wicken Fenn, Northwest of Wicken - farm called Spinney Abbey
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Named after a priory that stood long ago on the site, Spinney Abbey is haunted by a monk believed to have been murdered in 1406. Plainchant has also been heard in the area.

Big and Black

Location: Willingham - Exact area unknown
Type: ABC
Date / Time: February 1996
Further Comments: This typical large black cat seen at some distance.

Demonic Mice

Location: Willingham - General area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: One time owner of the mice, Jabez Few, sold his soul to the devil, and left his mice to look after themselves. Locals say they have done ever since.

Corpse in Bedroom

Location: Wisbech - Hanneth Hall (4 miles north of Wisbech)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1800s onwards
Further Comments: Local legend states that sometime during the 1800's the owner's wife died, and lay in the now haunted bedroom for six weeks while the owner went through his denial.


Location: Wisbech - Shoe shop along the High Street

Further Comments: Phantom footsteps could be heard moving around on the staircase and in the upper part of the building during one Christmas season.

Mischievous Man in Three Pointed Hat

Location: Wisbech - The Bowling Green Tap pub, Chase Street
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Known to the bar staff as 'Charlie', the ghost and the associated poltergeist activity has been known to shift from jovial to dangerous in a matter of minutes.

Bomber Trying to Land

Location: Wittering - Wittering RAF base, airfield
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: World War Two onwards, last witnessed 1990?
Further Comments: Crashing into the control tower during the Second World War, the bomber is said to re-enact the fatal accident, either silently descending until it reaches ground where it disappears or else it hits the Control Tower. Ghostly airmen have also been seen around the site of the crash, and a former MP reported feeling a presence and lights coming on and unexplained loud bangs in the control tower. They also heard footsteps in the empty building corridor in what was the old hanger for 1 squadron, together with observing shadows moving into rooms.
