Catherine of Aragon

Location: Kimbolton - Kimbolton Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1536 onwards
Further Comments: The first wife of Henry VIII was imprisoned here for the last two years of her life. Legend says Catherine of Aragon's ghost walks the gallery, after dying in one of the rooms in 1536. Another shade, belonging to a young child, began to haunt the building after she was thrown from the battlements. The paving slab which the child landed on is said to glow blue on the anniversary of the event.


 
 


Old Man in the Corner

Location: Linton - Dog and Duck public house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: November 1999
Further Comments: This ghost, sometimes seen sitting in the corner of the pub, has often moved around the chairs in the bar during the night, and is said to tap people on the shoulders when something annoys him.


 
 


Legless Man

Location: Linton - The Bell public house (no longer open)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Cut off at the knees, this Elizabethan gentleman was said to be not an uncommon visitor to the pub. During a period of renovation, it was discovered the old floor of the public house was actually half a metre lower than it currently was.


 
 


Highwayman

Location: Little Abington - The Old Cottage
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Dusk
Further Comments: A figure dressed as a highwayman has been observed in the garden of the building.


 
 


Grey Lady

Location: Little Downham - Vicarage
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Early/mid twentieth century
Further Comments: A grey lady once haunted this building. She manifested before a young child who promptly said 'go away'. The entity did, and never returned.


 
 


Stabbed Bulldog

Location: Littleport - Bulldog Bridge, which connects Littleport & Shippea Hill
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Dusk
Further Comments: After saving a local girl from a friar who attempted to rape her, the dog was killed by her attacker. It can now be seen crossing the bridge.


 
 


Jessop's Dream

Location: Littleport - House around 300 metres from the bottom of Little Ditchment Close (no longer present)
Type: Other
Date / Time: 29 July 1853
Further Comments: James Jessop had three dreams in one night, in which he heard the cries of murder; after each dream he awoke before falling back to sleep. The following evening the body of a woman was recovered from the area.


 
 


ABC

Location: Long Stanton - Exact location unknown

Further Comments: One of many ABC sightings in East Anglia during 1996.


 
 


Faceless Man

Location: Longstanton - Road through the village
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unstated
Further Comments: While driving home, a witness spotted a shadowy figure standing on the side of the road. The driver manoeuvred to give the figure plenty of room as he passed, and then noticed the figure had no facial features. Looking back his rear view mirror, the driver could see that the figure had vanished.


 
 


Party with Ugly Young Man

Location: Madingley - Madingley Hall
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 24 December Lady Ursula is seen, but the party reported in Sept 1963
Further Comments: One witness claimed to have heard the sounds of a ghostly party, followed by the sighting of a stuffy young man, whose face resembled that of a skeleton. Others have also reported similar occurrences, describing the man as having a decaying green face. Lady Ursula Hynde also returns to the hall once a year, upset at her son's actions - he pulled down a church, and used the wood to finish construction of the Hall.


 
 


South of the River

Location: March - Church
Type: Legend - Old Nick
Date / Time: Church still present
Further Comments: The villagers of March wanted their church in the village, but the Devil felt so passionately about his fenland he moved the construction materials across the river.


 
 


Jack O'Lantern

Location: March - Fens - North of Chatteris, West of March, South of Thorney
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: This ghost light has been reported drifting deep in the fens, trying to attract the unwary to their doom.


 
 


Fen Tiger Returns

Location: Melbourn - Fowlmere Road
Type: ABC
Date / Time: 05 December 2012, 05:45h
Further Comments: Cyclist Gavin Elliott-Turner encountered two large black cats in the snow while travelling to work. The creatures ran off across fields, leaving clearly visible footprints.


 
 


Cromwell's Wealth

Location: Mildenhall - Bartlow Hills, aka Three Hills
Type: Legend
Date / Time: Hills still present
Further Comments: A chest full of treasure is said to have been hidden by Oliver Cromwell in this area.


 
 


Car

Location: Milton - Crossroads turning off to housing estate
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Though there are no reports of fatal accidents at this location, the area is reportedly haunted by a car that hits vehicles, bumping them, but leaving no marks.


 
 


Oliver Cromwell

Location: Murrow - Ghost Hill, somewhere on fenland
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: A ghost matching the description of Cromwell has been reported on Ghost Hill, a small isolated area of fenland.


 
 


Little Old Lady Attracted to Wives

Location: Offord Cluny - Manor house
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The ghost of an unknown lady soon appears to any female who has been newly wed when they first move into the house.


 
 


Edna

Location: Offord Cluny - The Swan Inn
Type: Poltergeist
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The poltergeist which once took up residence here was given the nickname Edna.


 
 


Radio

Location: Papworth Everard - Private residence
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1997 - 1998
Further Comments: While living in this property for eighteen months, a witness experienced the sounds of a radio playing and someone moving around an empty area, and running footsteps and the sound of the front door opening, although nothing would be found on investigation. Mild poltergeist activity included the video recorder turning itself on and off, while a plate flew off the kitchen work surface.


 
 


Creature with One Yellow Eye

Location: Parson Drove - Throckenholt Bank
Type: Shuck
Date / Time: 1980s
Further Comments: A woman with her son reported seeing a creature with a single yellow eye that watched them from behind a bush. When it ran off, she could see that it was the size of a calf.


 
 


Dashing Woman

Location: Peterborough - A1 north of Peterborough, 2 - 4 miles outside of city
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1995
Further Comments: During a clear day, a driver and his wife overtaking a lorry at 70mph watched a woman in 1950s clothing, carrying a bag, dash in front of their car to the central reservation. The driver had no time to slow down, but didn't hit the woman.


 
 


Choir

Location: Peterborough - Cathedral
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Several ghosts are said to haunt the cathedral. The sounds of an invisible choir have been reported, while phantom monks appear in the graveyard (one of whom vanishes through a closed side doorway. Also, a light resembling a candle has been spotted floating around the upper floors at the front of the building.


 
 


Victorian Man

Location: Peterborough - Cherry Tree public house, Oundle Road
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: The pub is said to be haunted by a man wearing Victorian clothing.


 
 


Snatchers

Location: Peterborough - Cowgate
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Unknown
Further Comments: Once the site of a cemetery, the area at the end of Cowgate is said by some (but not many) to be haunted by people who had their earthly remains removed by body snatchers.


 
 


Monk

Location: Peterborough - Eight Bells public house, Lincoln Road, Millfield (no longer operational)
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2000s?
Further Comments: This pub was said to be home to a phantom monk, a ghostly woman, and the occasional mild outbreak of poltergeist behaviour.
