Disappearing Dog

Further Comments: A large black dog here often escorted a local farmer as he drove his cart to market. When a girl tried to pat its head, it vanished.

Further Comments: A stagecoach with horses but no driver was seen by a witness in a car driving in the opposite direction along this road.

Elizabeth Adams

Further Comments: This green tinted lady died of the traditional broken heart after her husband was murdered - locals say her ghost continues to look for those responsible.

Headless Dog

Further Comments: A ghost of a little headless dog wagging its tail was taken at a tea party in the village early in the twentieth century. The photographer, an ex-Scotland Yard Inspector, claimed he saw nothing when taking the image.

Landlord's Wife

Further Comments: The sound of barrels being moved has been reported coming from the cellar, though on investigation everything is always in the correct place. A ghostly woman has been spotted a couple of times, and is thought to be the shade of a publican's wife who was murdered in the 1940s.

Airman with Silk Scarf

Further Comments: Thought to be another casualty of World War Two, this spectral airman was last seen by the base's cook.

Moved by Fairies

Further Comments: The church was planned to be built elsewhere, however the local fairy population had other plans, and moved the building materials to the place the structure now stands.

Large Black Cat
Location: Wendover - Main Exit to Woods

Further Comments: A driver reported passing along this road and slowing down for what they assumed was a large black dog. As they approached, they realised the creature was in fact a very large black cat.

Chiltern Puma
Location: Wendover - RAF Halton housing estate

Date / Time: May 1983, and 2005
Further Comments: In May 1983, four women encountered the 'Chiltern Puma' while walking through the estate - the creature past within three metres of the group. The cat was seen a half dozen times during that year, in over a three week period, all within a thirteen mile radius. In 2005 another witness reported seeing a large black creature close to the old RAF hospital site.

Susan
Location: West Wycombe - George & Dragon public house

Further Comments: Susan was killed when a prank went wrong - she was so upset she attacked the people responsible and was mortally wounded as they defended themselves. She died in a guest room at the public house. Since then, the pale white form of Sukie (as she is affectionately known) has been observed in bedrooms and by the fireplace.

Paul Whitehead
Location: West Wycombe - West Wycombe Park, caves under the hill

Further Comments: The location of a Hell-Fire Club, Whitehead was a fully fledged and enthusiastic member who has apparently found it hard to leave his membership behind post mortem.

Grey Lady
Location: Whaddon - Lowndes Arms public house and motel

Further Comments: A grey lady and other shadowy figures and said to have made their home in this pub. Poltergeist activity has also been reported - items move around, doors open, and objects are moved around in locked rooms.

Rustling
Location: Whitchurch - Creslow Manor House (now a farm)

Further Comments: The manor house had a haunted guestroom, in which one could hear the rustling of a silk dress. One witness saw the female ghost, and tried to grab her, only to see the figure vanish.

Turpin

Further Comments: The ghost of a highwayman, thought to be Dick Turpin, haunts the Bury Lane approach towards the Old Swan Inn that once acted as one of his many hideouts.

Further Comments: This figure wearing a tricorn hat appears to be pacing along the roadside, as if waiting for someone to join him.
